DiPricol Optix wiring help

It has come to our attention that several customers have had problems with the operation of the Pyro/egt gauge when they follow the instructions that come with the Optix series gauges. We feel its appropriate to post this information here for everyone just in case you have a similar problem.

The wiring diagram tells you to wire up to the battery. While that can work it will lead to the problem that has come up, and that is the Pyro pegs out or won't drop below a certain temp no matter how cold the engine is.

Make sure you wire this into a key on/key off power source. When it is wired directly to the battery the power is never turned off and therefore heats up the gauge internals where they will not drop to the accurate temperature of the vehicle. So again, wire the + that the instructions say goes to the battery to a key on / key off power source and you will be all ok.

And as always if you have any questions your welcome to ask us.

Very good advice. I installed per the directions and it did just what you said so I called Dipircol and they explained it to me. Now it works perfectly.

Where is the key on and key off wire to tap into??? I can not get anywhere near the cigarette lighter to even see a wire on it. Got the cover below the steering column off. Lots of wires??? After all the reading on DTR that I've done it sounded like a pretty easy install for these gauges. I didn't know I would not be able to find the key on wire to tap to. Any help please? 2001 3500 Dodge. Thanks.

What they mean by the key on off tap, is any source of power that is activated whent he key is turned on and de-activiated when it is turned off. it is up to you to choose the best place for your given gauge install.

I used a fuse tap and went straight into the fuse panel. Was easy and convienent as the wires were already coming down the a-pilar right into the fuse panel.
I think I was one of the reasons for this thread. I installed my DiPricols about a month or so ago and had that same problem. EGT gauge would not come down. I called, they told me what to do and it has worker perfectly ever since. You will notice that the gauge does stay at the last temp after you shut it down. Then the next time you start the engine it will drop to zero and then pop up to its proper reading. Like its resetting itself

Look under the dash around where the E-brake crap is. You will see a junction block. At the lower, right hand corner of this block is a connector with wires that you can back probe with a test light. I believe the Orange (Its real easy to tap into) wire is a switchable power source. This is where i put mine when i popped them in. If i had a camera....i would take a pic...but its back in Texas..........

I saw the instructions.....didnt really understand why they would do that.....i didnt want my gauges running all the time when the truck was off......so i popped em in they way i do the Autometers...........never had an issue......and STILL LOVE THE THINGS!!!!

Just some friendly advice from an auto technician who has seen plenty of "tap into any key on power source" problems. Be sure you are tapping into something that is NOT air bag, computer controlled. Have seen some of the hack installers put on remote start systems on Cadillacs and they just "tap into a key on" circuit......then it ends up here and the customer is saying it's doing weird things????? Then you find wires and butt splices into pcm circuits and other things. So be sure it is key on power source that is non essential, cig lighter or your accessory outlet and also remember your amperage draw on that circuit with whatever you have connected onto that circuit. Have seen plenty of burnt up dash harnesses from overloading a circuit.
