Di pricol EGT guage problem
When I recently bombed my '99, I installed a Di pricol EGT gauge. This was a used guage from my buddy's truck and it always worked fine in his. However, when I installed it in my truck the needle will not go down past about 100 deg. It seems to function fine other than not going to "0" when cold. Also, it reads this way even with the thermo-couple wires unhooked. So, my questions are:
1. Is there a way to "zero" the guage so that it will go all the way down when cold?
2. If not, does this mean that my readings are off by 100 deg.?
Thanks,

Mine hardly ever goes down to zero either, but I would assume that it's because the exterior temperature seldom drops to zero here. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, and I don't think it means that your temps will be off either.

Mine shows fairly accurater temps in the morning!
Never goes to 0 just below the 50*F mark... It been about 40-50*F in the mornings.
You could boil water and dip the probe to see the temp is around 212*F Just another way to see where it lands...

Jason,
Mine regularly reads the ambient temperature in the morning. But that is usually in the low 40's. And it starts climbing immediately on firing up the engine.
There could be something wrong with the gauge itself tho. Does your needle start to move immediately or does it hesitate?

xp, the needle seems to react very quickly. In fact it is kind of weird to see the EGT go up almost as fast as the tach!
Seriously though, it seems to work fine other than not going down all the way. My buddy and I both agree that we think that it went all the way down before the swap to my truck. A couple of mornings ago I had frost on my windshield and it was still reading about 100 deg. before start-up. I'm not overly concerned but I was just hoping that there was a way to correct the reading. I thought about unhooking both wire from the guage and shorting across the terminals of the guage just to see if anything happened. After all, the EGT guage is just a fancy voltmeter that reads voltage created by the thermocouple as temperature rises, correct??? At least I assume that is how it works.

The probe might produce a reversed polarity to pull the needle down more...
Un-hooked mine sat right at about 70*F on the guage I though the same thing... But in cold mornings I've seen it below the 50*F mark now... So I know mine is working properly.
Either stick ice to the probe or dip it intro boiling water to see if moves to the proper temps... 32*F or 212*F respectively...
Take notice to my pryo in this pic it's not zero'ed but the truck is sitting cold and hasn't been started...
