Not a good idea IMO. And I'm pretty sure an 01 calls for ATF +4(which is synthetic or synthetic blend).

I would recommend a premium synthetic like Redline or Amsoil.

The manual calls for atf+3. I double checked. I know the synthetics are better as a general rule, but they also slip more, making for a nice soft shift, I am a little over powered so thought the Dextron may slip less. I hear DTT calls for Dextron just for this reason, so I thought it may help me?

Thanks For the reply!

it may help a slight amount with the slipping as it is a more agressive fluid, although I dont think it will prevent your converter from slipping if it already slips.

Most of the diesel tranny specialists recommend Dexron plus two tubes of Lubegard black. The Lubegard will make Dex equal to +3 or +4.
More info http://www.lubegard.com/automotive/trans_atf_hfm.html
My stock tranny went 212k on it before I replaced it with a Suncoast.
The Suncoast has 30k miles problem free with Dex plus Lubegard also

My 01 called for +4. When I put in a DTT exchange transmission I switched to cheapo (usually chevron) dexron-mercon and changed it every 10K. Worked great for me. When I had my 94 rebuilt I did the same and so far its working well.

My truck had Dexron/Mercon in it when I bought it. The T/C clutch shuddered REALLY bad with it. Not nearly as bad the the +3.

My Goerend tranny has Dexron, plus a bottle of additive.
