dead pedal
ok i just bought a 01 2500 5.9 5 spd this is the first cummins i've owned, but my dad has owned them for years. My dad sold his 02 and bought a 07 so all my performance parts are his old ones. I installed my truck with 4" exhaust, cold air intake, and an edge 5 stage module. Truck ran great for the first week with these items installed, then i started to get dead pedal. i checked the codes and im getting 216 and 1693. I replaced the LP and the FF with no luck to fixing the problem. I have gauges on order but none right now. I sure hope it's not the IP
. I found what both codes mean but don't understand the 1693 one. Any advice would help thanks.

can you tell me how to erase the codes because like i said i just bought the truck and they could have been on there from before. Also the IP has that reman sticker on it. I just have a hard time believing it's the IP. when I unhook the edge chip it does it alot less.
Codes will clear themseves after several starts, or you can clear them with a scanner. you could also try unhooking the batteries for about 30 minutes. I know it's hard to believe, but Ive had 2 diffrent pumps on two different trucks last less that 1 year. If your getting the DP, then the problem is still there, if you were getting a APPS code then I would start there (but your not). Get the fuel pressure checked, your lift pump is probably bad also, I would fix that first, but with the 0216 and DP it has hurt your IP also. That's why a pressure gauge is needed. One of those trucks I spoke of didn't have a gauge on it, I thought with the new IP and LP it would be alright for a little while, till I got around to putting one on it. I was wrong 6 months later, had to do it all over, then put the gauge on it.

Not that I would never own a 2nd gen, I still like the overall package, but that LP/IP combo is a bugger.

thanks for the help guys i ordered a big line kit and a holley blue inline pump, and gauge. i'll start there and then i'll buythe IP. and other info would be great help
just replaced my ip at 88000 miles, had the new one on for 3 weeks and it went out already,
you just gotta laugh at that one. got another one on warranty, thank god for that. but the first time was p0216 and dead pedal, and the second was just a real rough idle/misfire at idle. the place where i got it said it was a factory defect in the electronics of the pump, that's why it failed the second time.
and yes, i've got good fuel pressure

Not too long ago one of the knowledgeable tech guys said that the 0216 is not always the indicator of IP coronary. It can happen that the LP has failed and cutoff the fuel to the IP if I remember right and the code pops up. Never the less the damage is done whether today or later the IP is or going to be toast. But for the most part it's time for the IP replacement. Check out the new how to video, it's not quite complete but getting there.
Another little tidbit is that the cost per mile isn't really very high if it goes 100k miles.
