i haven't seen the site but i think i understand what it is, i think once they figure out how to make one that doesn't wear out to fast and can hold the power it will be in every vehicle because they are the most effective way of getting power down. just look at snowmobiles not very many machines that will accelerate faster then that.

A lot of our friends have ATV's with the CVT transmissions, most of them being 500cc machines. We have an Artic Cat 454 that is a run of the mill auto clutch. The Arctic Cat feels so much stronger than any of the other bikes, slow but hauls much more. I still think there is alot of power loss in that transmission in the belts and such. I dunno if a truck would act the same, but I never got into the automatics.

Peak torque on a stock cummins is 1400-1600 right?
I think the current transmission is why we need to run at higher rpms to keep it clean and cool.
I would give up my truck as a tester to see if this IVT would work.

HOw silly, they use a 5.3L powered Tahoe for the test. An engine that LOVES to rev far past 5,000RPM's, and think they have GM out smarted by putting a trans behind it that dogs it at 1,000RPM's.

If I'm behind the wheel of a 5.3, I want to see that tach hit 5,800RPM, not 1,000. Heck, that is still far too low for the 5.9L B series to actually make any power.

Here is the Article. The pic they have shows a Ram, but I can't quite make what engine it is from the badges. Can you? http://www.democratandchronicle.com/...7/1039/OPINION

Also, how do they plan to keep heat down when hauling something with a tranny like this? If you cant "lock" something like a converter can be locked in there that keeps it from getting the fluid so hot, then there is no way you could run down the highway with a heavy load, and not melt the transmission. I dont think it will work good for anything but an escort.....

With this type of transmission, maybe the heat won't be an issue.
