correcting the speedo on a 96

I tried a search about this, but was unclear. :P Ive got 4.10s and tomarrow( ;D) the 36's should be on the boy. How do I correct the speedo, it will be close to 265's with 3.55's.

I guess in the wide world of TDR noone has EVER put taller tires on a 94-98,(pre computer) :- I guess its just not as exciting as something like a 8" exhaust tip

I've got experience on either side and with manuals, but will help you figure it out.

Look at the back of the tranny near the output shaft for a plug with two wires at a rectangular, metal box roughly 1" x 2". If it's there (instead of picking up the speed from the rear differential), unthread the sending unit (rectangular box) from the tranny. Next should be the housing for the speedometer gear. Unthread that from the tranny and remove. Time to count teeth on the gear. You'll need to do some math also. Determine the ratio of your new larger tires to the old smaller tires (new tire diameter divided by old tire diameter) will give you a number greater than 1. Divide the number of teeth on the speedo gear out of the tranny by this number greater than one. You will need a new gear from Dodge with that many teeth on it. Fewer teeth will speed up the speedometer.
When I corrected the speedo on my first gen it cost $70!!!

IFFFFFF.
There is no sending unit on the back of the tranny, then the speedo is picking up a signal from the rear differential. This will be strictly electronic and will require an electronic ratio adapter. There are a couple out there, I use the Abbott ERA (Electronic Ratio Adapter)

Wish I knew for sure how the 94-98.5 2nd gens got their speedo signal.

Really hope this helps - and sorry for the delay in response.

I wasn't trying to give him a bad time or laugh at him, I make errors like that everyday. I just didn't want him to get so confused, that he put Hoss out of a job ;D
