Common rail in a 2nd gen

Has anyone put a common rail in a 2nd gen pickup. Just kind of curious how it was done and what it took.

You won't be able to use much from your 2nd gen engine.....while the short block and cylinder head are quite similar, the 3rd gen uses a completely different intake and fuel system that does not have any common parts with a 2nd gen.

What would the advantage of swapping to common rail be?

Better mpg, more potential for power, more aftermarket support?

I don't see any advantages other than you wouldn't have to deal with the @!#%*#$! VP44 anymore....on the other hand, as expensive as it is, I would expect you would be much farther ahead $ per hp to swap in a P7100 on the 24v than to bother with the HPCR.

HPCR is easier to mod with plug and play and it's quiter. It would be for the wifes pickup. The main reason people swap in the 12V is because its easy IMO.

IMO< the main reason people would swap in a 12V is because its RELIABLE. Im still not sure why anyone would want to do this. I dont have much confidence in the third gens, JMO.
