Anything's possible. But I'd venture to say that you would explode your turbo before you'd collapse a filter from suction. It would take not just restriction, but BLOCKAGE of the filter to cause a collapse. Like Saran Wrap over the whole thing. But it would have to be over the whole filter in order to happen.

If you had that kind of blockage, the vacuum being drawn in the intake tract would drastically increase turbine shaft speed, and I'd think that you'd grenade a charger before collapsing a filter.

Do guys running twins that have an AFE setup have collapsing issues? That's more air than you have by a decent amount, isn't it?

From the provided picture, the damage falls along a crease for the most part. That points to PHYSICAL damage in my book.

Looks like physical damage to me. Had any Ford or Chevy guys drooling over your unit, and maybe sabotaging it.

Them unit droolers love me on the Fode and Chebie sites lol

Ok ok so everyone thinks I smashed the cat in the hood. I still don't think so and if I replace it and a week later it looks the same way(no cats involved) then I'm going to lose a lot of faith in you internet experts lol.

I have seen one of these filters look like this on a truck with a PDR HX35/14 pulling the air. I have no idea why they are doing it but some are..

Did someone clean it for you, some people (like jiffy lube tech's) like to bang these filters on the ground to dislodge any loose dirt particles. This would cause it to collapse like that I know first hand from my filter on my cobra!!!

is the filter's heat shield/mount secure? maybe the filter is bouncing around because the mount isnt secure?

maybe a motor mount not tight enough allowing motor to twist side to side and jamming the filter against the firewall/fender area?

any evidence filter has been hitting firewall on the black sound deadener stuff?

let the brainstorming continue...

Those filters get smashed pretty easy . I had one on a dirt bike that is bent to hell.

Maybe a cat got up in there.

I've had that happen to me twice so far, first time was from the guy at the oil change place using it as an elbow rest while fighting with the oil filter and the other time was when I let the "Sock" or AFE pre-filter screen get plugged up with dust, the filter actually got sucked inwards and crushed even though the filter itself was relatively clean. I was totally amazed at how much that pre-filter actually does and I swear by them now!!!!!

My AFE does that too..and Im the only one that has been workin on it since this filter was put in...I only spool 38psi. Will AFE replace them if we send it back to them?

I'd expect them to. It's totally unacceptable for filters to collapse so easily. Maybe AFE is cost cutting?
