cold start idle

Hi all,
I have a 95 auto, bone stock motor. this last cold snap(which i dont think is ever gonna end) it does not want to idle for the first 30 seconds or so.
i know to plug it in but my pos power stroke has to take that parking place or it will not start. the dodge will start instantly but will not idle.then it wants to idle about 350-400 rpm. once it warms up it idles fine.
Is there a cold start solenoid on this truck that holds the throttle up a bit?
I looked a little but at 7*f i just cant get in the mood to look at it very hard when i am not sure if the truck even has a cold start throttle system.
Thanxs in advance,
John

Hi John
Welcome to DTR

A fellow named Harold Bowers used to sell a solenoid high idle. (Last I checked) He cannot source quality solenoids & stopped selling the kits.

I use a scrap piece of 1x2 for idle control. Wedge the 1x2 (or whatever size you prefer) between seat & foot pedal to up your idle speed. The electric seat control adds more fine tuning

Thanx fer the quick reply, i had a hunch that gizmo was non existent. I got a fast idle solenoid off a sbc i just chucked out of the kids car, stuffed a 383 in it and threw awaythe 305 and all the factory wiring and amenities. I'll find a sensor and wire it up. (maybe just a timer?)
I put a remote start on the truck for cold weather(I'm a wimp like to crawl into a nice warmed up truck) now to figure out what else i need to get.

Sounds like your idle is low anyway. Spec is 800 rpm when engine is hot, in drive with the A/C on. That would likely be around 1000 rpm in park or neutral.

When I start my truck on a cold day, it will idle between 650 and 750 rpm when it first fires, hot idle is around 850 on it.

I don't like that high an idle in the winter. It will push me through an icy intersection when I'm trying to stop. I like it around 600 in gear. I also have a tighter converter so the summer numbers may work for you.
