Codes and reader
My 1998.5 24valve did not fired up(didn't even turned the engine, completly silent) yesterday until I cleared the code P1693 with my only available odb2 reader, Hypertech Power Programmer 3.
It didn't showed any other code, but I know it tells that DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM . But it seems there's nothing wrong, no dead pedal or nothing. I have gauges, got normal readings.
Is there something to worry about? If there is a code in ECM or PCM, why my hypertech only showed that one only?
What could caused that? Truck has worked great ever since I cleared that code.

found this from old thread..
P1693 is the companion code.
Means there's a code present in the other module, depending on which module had the 1693 in it.
If that's all you show with the key on/off/on/off/on method, you'll have to have it scanned.
Either Autozone or other big parts house, or the dealer, to find the hiding code.

It could have been a code that clears itself after X number of engine starts without the code present.

FWIW My 98.5 just threw the same code. I belive I may have caused it by starting the truck without waiting for the wait to start light to go out. The truck was cranky when it did start, 20 mins later it started fine but had a CEL.
The light cleared after about 5 starts. I then cleared the code with a reader.
Just hope my 44 is not on its way south!!!!
