Code Readers Scan tools

I am looking for a scan tool for clearing my codes and troubleshooting. I found two the acutron at Autozone and one online called a OBDII the both read PO codes and PI codes
Can i clear everything with one of these ? Im under warranty and sick of the dealer, I dont want a Hypertech , I have a comp box waiting to install , But i need to get the bugs i have worked out before using the comp , I know it will void the warranty if the wire is tapped , But can they tell the plate has been on it? if i pull the comp and plate? Also will the Comp cause any codes i cant clear ?
Thanks

The yellow Autozone units will clear the codes as well as read them. I have one, works good.

Only trouble with Snapon, they have great tools but get confused when adding zero's to the end of the price.

I bought a ODII from Oreilly , I think it works ? I cleared the codes and all i can see now is the 0216 , I tried the key method and i dont get anything unless i drive a block then the 0216 comes back , So i guess it works ,
Thanks guys
