Clutch slipping in 4th/5th while under boost pulling load uphill?

The previous owner of my truck said that it had a new clutch in it. By "new", I'm not sure what exactly is meant, but I'm assuming it's just a new stock clutch. Driving around town is fine, I can haul *** out of first, bang 2nd, nail 3rd etc., no problems. Even in 5th on the highway at low RPM, if I step on it, I don't get slippage.

Last week I was pulling a trailer with my F-250 on it, and it pulled awesome, and on regular ground I had no issues. Only thing I noticed is that while going up a hill, it acted like it was slipping just after 2K RPM in 4th and 5th...once it started boosting, the RPM seemed to shoot way up, but the speedometer didn't go any faster. I'm assuming then that was the clutch slipping? Or is that normal?

Should I just take it easy with heavy loads up hill? Or should I be looking for an aftermarket replacement?

Yep, sounds like it's time to call Peter at South Bend!

Definately clutch slippage, do like Rusty says! You have a #10 plate, excellent for low end torque, bad for stock clutches! Also, if you don't have one, put in a governor spring kit, then you can pull right to 3K rpm and upshift and be right in the heart of the power band.

Time to call Peter. I put a 350 HP clutch in mine and now I have more HP than I have clutch so mine will do the same thing. There will definately be another SB going in to replace that one. More clutch with less pedal effort and very smooth.

Time to do research and select a clutch that fits your needs.

Ive heard you can use a handyman jack to spread the fram, but they are heavy so if u try that then be careful.

just spread it a little then hit the back side with a hammer so that it slides to the front of the truck, the frame widens out enough to get it out there
