the clutch I recived from DD southbend
Well Guys and gals,
I have been going though a hassle of getting a clutch in my truck, it was a 2 week event. but ya thats another story. this is what the center plate of the set there were worm tracks in it or what I would call worm track from a bad casting of the plate and not enough blanch grinding. I called south bend and talked to some nate I think. Petter was out. he said they will stand behind it. but still take a look have any of you had one like this.. *** you can see there are a few of them one about 2" long about 1 /16 deep 1/8 wide well words talk so lets here it guys for the price it should be perfect..

To be honest with you I would not have given them a second look because that floater from SBC is probably the thickest floater in the market and would not have failed or caused any increased wear on the clutch facings.
Just chill out....South Bend Clutch will take care of you.
I have been running SBC's clutches for years. Great company that stands behind their products.
Customer service that is second to none.....PERIOD!
I don't know what your grudge is against peter but there's a reason he's got such a great following. So one clutch slipped by. Big deal. He's human as is his staff and mistakes happen. Peter will make it right at no cost to the customer and with no questions. I really don't understand what you have against him and his clutches.
I used to be that way until I put up the money for real clutch. My luk lasted 11 months and less than 20k and had a groove so bad in the PP and flywheel that it had no pressure to engage the clutch and was starting to slip. I went to a SBC DD and abuse it on a daily basis and have yet to have it slip. Even when sled pulling the clutch only slips until i take my foot off the pedal. Once the pedal is out, she is locked up tight.
You've got to be kidding. You have guys on here that throw tons of $$ at their trucks to make them perform better, $5000+ transmissions, $1300 and up for turbos, $500-1200 on injectors. You get my point, If Banks were the best, people would pay the price to have it. I'm not going to bash Banks on this site, but do some digging around and see what the top dogs bring to the track.
well I would like to add in here, the Reply I got from Peter "
Just got done talking to my guy about the gouges in the center plate. He said that he saw them and made a judgment call to send it because it was only a cosmetic thing and would not effect the clutch in its performance. My reply to him was, NOT!!! If someone is spending that kind of money they better get something that looks like a picture and you can eat off of." Also stated that If it was not in He would have one here tommrow, and that if It was in He would stand behide it 100% and labor. We will see how things hold up with time. the trip to Utah I am taking on the 22 will tell all I guess .

Im not saying that you cant get more power for less $$$ I just mean that they make realy good stuff and like to sell it in kits to keep some
from burning things up. When have you heard of guys ruing banks trashing motors. Yes they cost to much but usualy the guys I see bad mouthing thim just cant aford it, I know I cant. Not saying there arnt guys spending more on other brands I just dont like people bashing them just becous you can get a Bully Dog with the crasy larry with no guages and melt pistons for $500. Not an attack on Bully Dog just used as an example becous of the highy HP for little $$$. Not trying to start a war, I was actualy taking up for South Bend. Some think they are over priced and you can get a clutch that is "rated" for just as much as some of theres and at half the price. You guys already know thats not how it realy works. Banks is good for those guys pulling 5th wheels and want some extra power and to keep an eye on things and know that there not going to trash any thing. How many others make complet kits with every thing you need all made by the same company. They also have the fastest Diesel truck in the world, guess there doing some thing right. I like EDGE myself. Well to each there oun. Im done.

if you install it correctly and give it a few miles for break in before doing something crazy like a 3rd gear launch then i can say that you will love the clutch. I have a 3850 12cb DD that is a big, heavy, and somewhat grabby clutch, but it ALWAYS holds, and after a day or two of getting used to the way it acts, i can drive it and shift it as smooth as an automatic if i want to. (just not as fast LOL)
You are NOT the only one to get a SBC intermediate that looks like that!!!!!
Mine had very similar marks and to what I though was a deep mark......but I guess not. The word I got back was it will function fine. so in it went. seems to be working fine to date. This was right out of the package, box and packing was not damaged. January '07

The fact that it's only ONE that slipped through is meaningless. How many clutches does a given individual person buy? Does that fact that 500 other people have perfect clutches relate to this guy's situation at all?
I'd say that human nature says we are self-centric. If *my* clutch had been a goof, then I can tell you I wouldn't take ANY comfort from knowing that OTHER people got a good clutch! Good for THEM! Meanwhile, *I* am out the time and inconvenience, and the truck sits useless until I get a great clutch.
So I'm kinda divided on this one. I'm very happy with my SBC and the service I got from Peter and the gang (thanks Rip Rook). But I also share KPs distaste for the groupthink/cheerleading that can sometimes be the first step on the path to blind brand loyalty (welcome to FordLand!).
Bottom line: Peter, you're only as good as you're last clutch. Thanks for making mine so awesome.
