clutch help
well i was cruising down the interstate today and went to change lanes and boom.
i think the input shaft or something in the clutch broke. i was pullin a gooseneck so i figured it was the shaft. But anyways i think im goin to go ahead and get a dual disc with the big shaft.
what kind would u all recomend for a daily driver that tows sometimes, hot rods around at times, and would like to pull a few times next year. would the 3250 dd be too small of plate load? how driveable is the 3600 from southbend? i like the valair 3400 but would like to hear what u all have to say!! anything is helpful, even the where i can get the best deal!!
Thanks!

I bought a 3250 DD & was very happy with it for daily driving & towing. The sled pulling doesn't work so well. I pulled 4 times & the clutch worked great, then I twisted a input shaft. I called Peter & he sent me out 2 new clutch discs with 1 3/8" splines free of charge. I bought the input shaft & installed the new discs using the old pressure & floater. The truck shifted like a new truck & I was in love. I sled pulled twice this year & the truck got hard to get into gear [floater plate warped]. Peter just sent me a 3600# 12cb which is getting installed Monday. Customer service from Peter is great, I am a Southbend guy for life. I know guys who have 30+ hooks on a 3600 with no troubles at all, get the 3600, better suited for your needs.
thanks J lent. thats what i was lookin for, jus wish few more ppl would reply. im guessing u had teh small input shaft when u twisted it. is the 3600 good to tow with? is it hard to take off or anything? and what about pedal pressure, how different is that?
I got a new SB a couple months back and am very happy with it. I've only pulled about 8000 lbs with it so far and its smooth and strong. I don't really hot rod my truck much, though. The service from Southbend was exceptional and my trans guy said its a great clutch.

Yep stock input twisted. My brother has the 3600# & it tows fine, you just need to keep the revs up when pulling out from a stop on a hill while loaded heavy. Other than that, it is great. Pedal is firmer than stock & definately not a stop & go traffic clutch, leg gets tired in long lines. My 3250 was slightly harder than stock. If the 3250 would hold up better to sledpulling, I would have kept it because it was really smooth.
If you're getting a dual disc the bigger shaft is a requirement...
