Chip's, mileage, and horsepower.
Does anybody know for certain if there are chips that can be had that will increase fuel economy. I know they all advertise more power, and somewhere they will say you MAY get better fuel savings, but I'd like to hear from someone personally who knows that to be true. I'm guessing it is probably false.
I don't need or want more horsepower, just a little better fuel economy.

Most of the chips have the potential to improve mileage but it all really depends on Your driving habits. Once You have the extra power it is hard not to use it from time to time (if not all the time), This is why most do not notice improved mileage.

the only chip i have seen that promises better fuel mileage along with increased hp is this one predator performance module
but i don't know anyone thats used it so i couldn't tell you if it really works

When my truck was stock I was getting about 14-15 mpg. With the addition of the injectors and the box, I am now getting about 18-19 in Winter and 20-22 in summer. Both helped mileage, but the box helped the most.

The main reason you are able to get better mileage with a box, or programmer is because they have the ability to advance the timing which helps them get better mileage. If you drive harder and take use of the extra fuel though, your mileage will probably go down, or you at least wont gain any.

I've been using the Superchips Max Micro Tuner on my truck and have noticed no difference in mileage. It woke it up a little, but I don't think anywhere near the claimed possilbe 80 Hp and 185 ft lbs of torque. This is with the same driving habbits with and without the tuner. I averaged 21.1 MPG (imp) before the tuner and 21.1 MPG with the tuner, although in Superchips defense we do have winter diesel right now.

By refering to a box, we add a 'box' to the98.5 and newer dodges to increase power/mileage.
We don't 'CHIP' them. The term 'chip' was used on older GM gas cars. It was a chip that was replaced to change timing/fueling on them.
With our trucks a box is added.
If you have a 12 valve truck, you simply change the pump settings.

From another one of his posts: 24V automatic 2500 slt quad 98.5 125,000 miles
I'm waiting to get a Smarty, which is a ecm programmer formerly known as Mad ECM or Catcher. Beta testing is currently being done, and so far Bob Wagner is reporting 20 mpg in the 'fuel saver' mode. This might be an option for you Puke once the Smarty officially debuts

For fuel economy I would go with the van Aaken R or V5 box. They do the same thing just plug in differently. They bring on the power early to get a nice gain in fuel economy. I would say you could get a 2 MPG gain with the box. I'm sure people have gotten more but I think this a safe number to say.

Software setting #1 on the new Smarty programmer is specifically designed for fuel economy.
Smarty is being beta tested now, and will be available shortly.
On winter fuel, I have been averaging high 17s to low 18mpg fuel economy. The first tank with Smarty software #1 was 20.2mpg. I only have one tank fill up to get this number, but over the next several weeks, it should become more comfortable to state mileage statistics.

I've never heard of smarty either?????
Where does one get info. on this stuff.???
Sounds like cummin's was forced NOT to have the optimum timing (usually when this happens it is due to US EPA smog reasons or rules about incomplete combustion and such).
