Seeing as the cover is Cast alluminum, you'dbest be a darn good welder.

Even so, you will want to remove the cover in order to prevent slag and garbage from dropping down onto the valve train.

Maybe someone else here has tried it and can comment on their success?

My valve cover on my 2001.5 is cast magnesium. I forgot what year they switched though.

if your valve cover is red/silver is was aluminum and you can clean it up REALLY well and weld it with a TIG. the black/silver covers were magnesium and can not be welded on. im sure if you have a magnesium cover someone would love to swap you for thier aluminum.

Magnesium can be welded with a 6013 flux rod on a crackerbox
