Cetane is whats writen on the Power Service container. The silver container says it has more than the white container. Whether it contains any or not is a mistery to me.

Anyone a fuel chemist?

Basically octane is resistance to ignition, keeps gas from igniting by compression.
Cetane is pretty much the opposite, it is a measure of ease of ignition by compression, which is good for your diesel.

Your local Sherwin Williams paint supply carries it, also I think Home Depot even has it, I ran it in one of my old hot rods.

the traitor is right. there is some stuff called cetane booster that will increase your cetane rating. wondering if this is what the old trucker was talking about.

You can get it at Walmart. It is Power service they sell the white bottles. I have had the best luck with the white bottles, don't know why. But mix as directed and I went up 2 klicks to the liter.

I recently switched to PS white and my fuel mileage seems to have gone up 1mpg in pure city driving...

I can't completely contribute the increase to the PS because I have also recently done trans service, front and rear diffs, front brakes and the transfer case...

More Cetane gives better starts and less smoke. Diesels need a min of 40 Cetane rating to start! Some areas of the US sell premium diesel fuel...with a guaranteed cetane rating of 50! Most #2 sold today is rated around 42.

Tolulene is added to a very few diesel additives. It is the only product on the market, that I know of, that will thaw out a fully gelled fuel line! Very expensive.
