Warm-up valve? make-shift exhaust brake? Anyone heard this?

A friend of mine said something the other day about there being a "warm-up" valve in my engine that can be wired as a sort of make-shift exhaust brake. He described it as being directly after the turbo in the downpipe area. He went on to say that with an aftermarket vacuum solenoid and a throttle switch you can wire it up to work as a sort-of exhaust brake.

What's this all about? I couldn't find anything on my engine that looked like this. ???

He might be talking about the waste-gate valve....

Yes its only on the Powerstrokes dont know a bout the chebby( dont really care). Its called a Butterfly valve. What it is a valve right after the turbo that closes like and exhaust brake and forces the heat that is going out to be pushed back so it warms the motor up quicker. Its neat and sounds wicked when it closes and you have 4" pipe with a 5" tip like on the Excursion. ;D

I did the deal on my 00 powerstroke. I used a heavy duty foot switch to do 2 things. I would press the foot switch and send gnd to the tc lockup wire (I think blue with purple or black with purple tracer, been a while) and via a bosch relay send 12v to the "butterfly" warm up valve, works very well. Actually puts alot of braking on the vehicle. Cost about 25 dollars for the whole deal. I used a napa connector (part number somewhere here) to not cut the factory wiring. And a radio smack part to keep the voltage from feeding back through the wiring. I forget the specifics but still have the switch and all the plugs still ready to go in a ford if you guys know someone interested. I spent many years in the automotive custom stereo business that is where I learned most of the ole relay tricks.
