Angry Burned piston

A update from my trip to Asheville NC. Thanks for all the help from everyone I was over 400 miles from home with my 5er and one mountain to many I had lost power and had lots of blow by from the crankcase after driving it a while it quit missing and had plenty of power but was knocking real bad. After much thought I decided to try and drive it home with my 5er about 14000lb.Well it made it and never missed a beat they are tough I have had engines come apart with less problems. Twelve hours to get the engine out by myself do you know you have to remove the oil pan to pull the motor and you cannot pull the head because the back four push rods will not come out. Anyway it is got to be bored # 6 piston was bad it looked like it got so hot it started to break or flake off.I believe it was caused by too much timing I had the Supper Chip on high plus I had my EZ on high an I was running at a high RPM 2700 for a long time Monterey is a 5 mile straight up climb and I have climbed it before but not with the EZ on.I will try to post a picture.

There are rubber plugs in the cowl that you can remove to get the push rods out. Remove the head no need to take the oil pan off. Put the engine in with the head off, I think it makes for an easier job. Just my .02. Thanks Steve B.

Don't the EZ and Superchip both add timing? If so, thats way to much.

Yes I have all gauges and they were all in the safe range when it happened was running 30 # boost 1050* exhaust temp and 190* engine temp and yes they both add timing but it really did and I emphasize did run good when both were on.But no more I will pull the EZ and sell I like the Super Chip better.I will say that from what I have seen in the engine that if I had not did this it would have went 5 or 600000 miles easy there was no ring ware at all you could still see the hatch marks on the cylinder walls I had 140,000 plus on the meter.

Nope not me I'm doing all six I would be afraid to run the other pistons myself I used to build and run drag cars and short cuts will cost you in the long run I have a good friend that owns auto machine shop and I told him I was building it to last. That about the plugs would have been nice to know to bad the stupid service manuel didn't show that.

Machine shops love it when people try to do repairs on the cheap, because they know they'll end up seeing them again to spend the same money twice.

Be careful not to be "penny wise, pound foolish" on this one...

Well if the piston melted at 1050F, what happened?

Too much cylinder pressure?

Stuck injector?

too much timing puts the fuel spray out of the combustion bowl in the piston, which in turn can cause erratic combustion, detination out side the bowl, causing piston meltdown
