Turbo from 3rd gen fit on 2nd gen?

I have seen a few turbos from 03 and 04 3rd gen trucks for sale for decent prices, is there any reason not to use them for an hy-35 replacement?

i meant the stock turbo just because you get get one for like 250-450 rather than spending miniumum 1200 for anything else and i thought it might be a little better than an hx-35?

Only problem is those newer turbos are choked off more than your stocker, 9cm vs your 12cm. You'll have great spool up but the top end will suffer.
Perhaps you could swap the exhaust housings, but I do not know if that's possible.

Well my HY-35 is 9cm so this means the 3rd gen turbos are the same? I'm suprised nobody has tired this.

I don't know the specs for sure on the 03-04 turbos (except they have a 9cm housing), but I don't think they're much of a step up from the HY-35. The 05's I know have 62mm compressors, but they too have the small 9cm housing. PourinDiesel could probably give compressor specs for the 03-04's.

They will bolt up, if you use a 3rd gen manifold, coolant & oil lines also.
Later,
