Broken t case.

I was at the drags today with my rig ( which can do a 15.3 with severe traction loss) and a twelve valve rolls up and does a 14 flat. I could'nt believe his 60 foot times... Then his next run , he spools up way too soon and waits...and waits... and finally the light drops. He launchs AND BOOM. He sat there for a few. the whole time his reverse lights kept coming on and off, on and off. Turns out he was doing 14 flat in 4 high and blew his transfer case.

after that happened I was the fastest diesel there ...but sorry for that guy

the transfer case is the weak link in our trucks its usually the first thing to go during pulling. there are 2 different transfer cases in our trucks, the 1tons and a few 3/4tons have a one peice tailshaft the good one and the 3/4tons have a two peice tailshaft the weak one.

Yup, a 241 light duty and a 241 heavy duty. Heavy duties are on 1 ton and 3/4 ton with snow plow prep - tag says 241HDH. And they can break too...

I haven't broke the tranfer yet but the shaft going into it twisted off. I guess they weren't made for power braking 30 or more pounds of boost.

There is a snap ring in the tail end of transfer case thats know to fail. I replaced it with a two piece locking collar. I think they said it only fits the HD unit
