Exclamation Boost psi questions please read...

When I am running full throttle, I don't see boost levels past about 16 psi. It is at 0 at idle and cruising at about 5-7 psi. I have never gotten out of the teens, and I think I should be in the 20's-30's....Is that correct? I have a stock turbo still on the truck. Should I get a boost controller like BD offers, or something else? I was wondering also what more boost pressure will do? Does it help when hauling big loads? I know these may sound like dumb questions but I'm still a bit new to all of this. Thanks for the help!

do you have an auto or manual? and yes your boost should be higher than that with the mods in your sig. higher boost will help pick up speed and lower egts. p.s. you didnt get a boost elbow or j-hook with your juice?

Jordan- Have you checked for a boost leak? Do you have high EGTs? IIRC the Edge should have come with a boost elbow.

Wildwood- Your numbers sound right. And you really don't want more boost on a stock turbo.

Ok, I have the boost elbow. But the instructions say on the 01 trucks I can't install it for some reason. I just remember reading it about a week ago or so. I'll need to double check that tomorrow. Anyone have pictures on thier boost elbow? I need clarity on how exactly to install it, if I can. Thanks. I'll run a search for it too. How much boost do you think my stock turbo can handle? Thanks again.

I have an auto, and yes I have the boost elbow, but didn't install it. The directions weren't too clear on how to. I'd appreciate some help with it. I looked into getting a j-hook or new waste gate actuator. Wasn't sure on what to do though. I've heard the j-hook doesn't really help too much, and have been disappointments on it. Let me know what you guys think I should do to increase my boost. Thanks

You're right that if you have an 01 auto you can't use the boost elbow. J-hook or turnbuckle are your options and a quick search will bring up lots of pics. You want to keep boost under 30 on that turbo.

if you are only see 16psi now, then i guarantee you will notice a difference after you put a j-hook now and get it up to about 30

Not trying to steal the thread, but I was just curious if the boost elbow can be used on a '01 5-speed?

How easy is it installing a J-Hook? I'm going to look into doing that. I'll run a search on it also. If you happen to come across anything, I'd appreciate it if you can shoot it over to me, thanks!
