Jeepin,

What size hardware did you use? I bought 3/8" npt fittings on my way home today but they are too big! Also, do you remember what size the hose is? The way mine is hooked up currently looks is totally different than his picture. The hose that goes from the elbow to the wastegate is only 3"-4" long.

Thanks!

It is 1/4 not 3/8 and the hose is also 1/4 mine is an 02 and has a different wastegate location than the picture also so it is probably like yours.
I bought a few feet of hose and then put the fittings in pointing towards the pass side and then looped the hose back to the wastegate.
You will love the elbow it jumps to 25 pounds fast and then keeps climbing to 30 then I run out of fuel and my alarm goes off telling me to let off.
I am hopeing after I install my FASS pump it will go to 35 pounds.
good luck hope this helps.

What does the stock boost elbow look like. Im not sure if I have one or its just what comes on there stock. Right now its a piece that comes out of the same area with a lil hex screw on it...is that stock?

If it has a hex screw then it isn't stock. That's the adjustable one.

well i went to the nearest napa store from the ranch where i live - 100 miles round-trip - and got back to discover that my rig doesn't look much like luke's photos. i should have looked sooner, but i'm in a wheelchair so i have to slide a table over next to the fender and then hop up on it to take a peek. anyway, my truck is an '02 automatic with what i assume is the stock hy35, and it looks like there's a steel line about 2 inches long that takes a hard left and goes into the wastegate, between the turbo and engine block. is this more or less correct? any suggestions? thanks.

so if i do this boost elbow setup i wouldnt want to close it all the way would i? since i dont have guages and dont want to run out of fuel and burn up my vp44 right? would half way be safe till i get guages. oh one more questions is the threaded hole already on the turbo or do i have to thread it?

thanks again

i personally would not put it on till you get some gauges. i am in the same boat. i just bought my elbow but i will not be putting it in till i get my quad commander. i dont want to have to deal with overboost issues. as for installing you just remove the stock elbow by screwing it out and screw this one in its place. they are basially identical except this one has a screw in it to limit the amount of air flowing through.

thanks for the input well im not really to worried about over boosting cause i will only run it like half closed to be safe.

but yeah i just went out and looked my turbo and saw the stock fitting and how it all works

and since i have a superchip which will do my boost fooling i think i should be fine, anyone else have any input.

thanks

If you're stock you won't boost more than what the wastegate is set at.

you will if the wastegate is not getting any psi from the line becasue the screw is screwed all the way in. you wont make much more than stock boost unless you add more fuel.

when you screw the adjustment screw in on the boost elbow....it restricts the air flow to the wastegate. the turbo will then build more boost because the wastegate isnt opening at the same time, because the turbo now has to build more boost to push the 19 or 20 psi to the wastegate throught the restricted line for the wastegate to open or if you screw it all the way in the wastegate will never see any boost so it will not open at all.
