boost elbow and wastegate

I'm new to this so this will sound stupid. How much boost will a stock turbo make? I've seen somewhere about unhooking the wastegate because the stock turbo can't make to much boost. If you get a boost elbow how much opening does the set screw block? If the wastegate unhooking works could you just simplify things by plugging the line between them? Thoughts or ideas? Am I thinking wrong? Thanks

It all depends on how much fuel you have. Not knowing what truck you have makes this harder, but sence your talkin boost elbow lets say you have a hx35 if you run a comp (or fuel plate if it's a 12v) and a blocked wastegate you won't get to much boost (around 30-35) if you throw in some big sticks with that, then you could run up over 40, and thats to high, really over about 32 is just adding hot air and no power. SO let us know more about your truck and we can be more specific.

truck info

The truck is a 1998.5 24v manual 3500. Got it about a month ago and added 4" exhaust and a k&n filter eliminating the box. other than that it is stock. The turbo looks new truck has 98,500 on it.

Well, first get you a in cab fuel presure gauge. Then I would get something other that the k&n filter. Ower trucks are bad to suck the oil out of them, and it sticks to the blades of the turbo and then the unfiltered dust sticks to that. That's what the big boys say anyway. the more mods you have on you truck the more air they suck. I use a bhaf on mine and it's as cheap as a k&n. do a search on bhaf (big honken air filter) or look in my gallery to see a pix of one. It's just a big rig filter that replaces the air box.

Boost, pyro, and fp guages are next. No use fooling with boost if you don't even know how much you're running now.
