Boost Elbow

I am not getting the boost that I was hoping for with my new mods. I was told to get a boost elbow, but being a cheap and just having to replace my LP, I got to thinking.

Could someone take the original elbow out, and drill an tap it and install a small allen screw into the elbow to reduce flow?? I hate the idea of spending 30.00 on a 3.00 part just because it says its a mod.

Anyone done this??

Chris

If you are a real cheap a$$, and the only extra fueling you are running is your VA box, then don't even bother with the elbow.....just remove the elbow and install a 1/8" pipe plug......keep an eye on your boost gauge and ensure that you are not boosting over 35 psi, which I doubt you will, and you are good to go!

I personally wouldn't risk it over a $15 part. Just buy the elbow and save yourself the trouble. It's $15 delivered.

Yeah, risk what? Mine is plugged off, but then I am running a non-wastegated 16cm housing, so there is no need for the elbow. I hit 35psi when ever needed, but only in 5th gear, no problems so far.

Trying to keep your boost manageable while your foot is plastered to the floor.....

I would expect that with just the VA box as the only source of additional fueling, you will not see unmanagable boost levels without a wastegate......there simply isn't enough fueling to cause a potential problem....but as I said before, don't guess....observe the boost gauge after the wastegate has been plugged to verify that there is an acceptable level of peak boost. I also run a 16cm non WG housing on my 94 with no problems

I am kinda thinking that between 25 and 30 # is what I should stay at, is that about right??

Also, we have all the stuff at work to do this so I think I am going to drill and tap the fitting and see waht happens. Again, they want 30.00 for this 3.00 piece .

From what I understand, if you restrict the amount of air going through the hose your waste gate will open later giving you more boost. Therefore turning the screw in will raise your boost.
