Black smoke
Black smoke
This maybe an uneducated question but here goes. Why does my truck with the following mods make smoke but then clears up when higher in the revs. Then I watch all these other trucks in videos etc. They are blowing smoke for what it seems is just as long as they want to.
Is my truck not as heavily fueled as those others or what?
Thanks for the education.

I'm not the most educated on here but I think I can give you a fairly good answer.
The trucks in the videos, sled pullers I assume, are usually purpose-built. They don't have to run on the street and pass inspections and the like. As such they dump in as much fuel as they can with exotic pump setups, huge injectors, and more. There is so much fuel in them that they can't burn it all even with the multiple turbos they have hanging off them.
Your truck produces a cloud until the turbo builds enough boost to even out the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber, and the smoke fades out.
Just put on some monster injectors and you'll have the constant cloud like they do, just keep an eye on that EGT gauge, black smoke usually equals heat.

As cool as smoke may look it means nothing in the actuall performance. All it is, is more fuel than you have oxygen enough to burn, wasted fuel and power. It soots up your exhaust, makes a mess of your truck and pisses people off. Sooner or later enough of them to put an end to our beloved trucks. If you wanna look cool on a budget just clog up your air filter.

smoke clears because you are meeting the desired air fuel ratio, before the point where you start getting boost, your motor is burning( or lack there of) more fuel than air causing incomplete combustion. Once the desired amount of air meets the given amount of fuel then things clear up, unless you have a 12v with rediculous dv's then it just smokes all the time...
