Bigger Tires and Rims

I would like to give my truck a little more axel clerance. What effect would changing out my 16" for 17" or 20" tires and rims? ???
Speedo? Brakes? Gears? ??? ??? ??? ???

Re:Bigger Tires and Rims

Depends on what size tire you put on. Speedo will be off. Gears, depending on what you have now, shouldn't be a problem. I run 37's with 4.10 gears and I'm not going to change.

I wouldn't run anything bigger than a 17" wheel. I've seen a Dodge 4X4 with 20" rims and big street tires and it was the silliest looking truck I ever saw. On top of that, if you go with anything bigger than a 16 or 16.5 rim, you're really limiting your choice of tires......

Re:Bigger Tires and Rims

19.5” rims and tires look nice though a little pricey.

Check these sites out.

Rickson is a direct bolt on, but the other two require adaptors.

I have read and heard that Alcoa is going to get into producing 19.5” wheels for dodge lug bolt patterns.

Good luck

Re:Bigger Tires and Rims

Heres my truck with a set of 18" rims with 35's on it. I think 37's would look better though and am saving up for them

Good looking truck.

I love the flames. Course I'm rather partial to flames. ;D

Re:Bigger Tires and Rims

Oops, I stand corrected. I forgot all about the Ricksons, et.al.

Not particularly partial to 'em myself, but the truck I was talking about had what is commonly referred to as "dubs" and low profile street tires.

I'd still stick with a 16 or 16.5 rim. Gives you the widest choice of brands, sizes, and tread patterns. Maybe in a few years that will change, but for now, the choices in an off road tire for 17-20" rims is pretty limited.

Evildiesel - have you found a 37" tire for an 18" rim? The biggest I've found for an 18 is the 35 your running now......
