Bigger Tires

what are the biggest tires you can put on a 2WD.
I have the stock alloy wheels and will be installing
a 1.5" front leveling kit. I want no rubbing.

I have a minor rub at full steer, tire corner rubs plastic wheel liner slightly, with 315/75/r16 and a 2 1/2" lift in the front. 305's would probably give you no rub, or trim the plastic liner like I have planned.

Did you install the leveling spacers yourself. If so,
how hard was the installation ?

Key word is 2WD.
2 wheel drive, not 4 wheel drive.

No idea, as I've never owned a 2wd truck.

Yes, it was not that hard at all.
1: Jack up the truck until the wheels are 4" off of the ground. Put the jackstands under the frame, not the lower control arms.
2: Remove the tire.
3: Remove the brake caliper and tie it up out of the way.
4: Place a jack under the lower control arm, and apply slight tension.
5: Remove the shock completley, you may need longer shocks, I did.
6: Without damaging the parts or boots, remove the tie rod end, and upper control arm, from the spindle.
7: Carefully, lower the jack all the way. Make a note of where the coil end sits in the lower control arm, it needs to go back in the same place.
8: Replace the rubber isolator on the top of the coil spring, with the new spacer.
9: Re-assemble in reverse order.
10: Repeat steps 2-9 for the other side.

The truck's front end will need to be re-aligned. Drive it to the shop on the old tires. Let the shop mount and balance the new tires, and do the front end alignment.

Whats involved with seperating the upper control
arm from the spindle. Are any special tools required ?

So if 305's will fit with no rubbing, whats the best tire
brand and deal. I'm looking for a semi-aggressive tred and
good wear qualities. I have a Les Schwab down the street.

Here is how I did it:

Remove the upper ball joint nut, and then put the nut on about three turns (this will keep everything from falling apart unexpectedly. Place a pry bar between the spindle and upper control arm. Apply moderate pressure, and smack the spindle with a hammer, on the side, where the ball joint is mounted. The ball joint should just pop loose.

If Les Schwab is just down the street from you I'd look into wildcountry TXR's. I have them on my pickup now and like them moer the I liked my bfg mt's. They seem to be wearing better then the mt's and have better traction on wet pavement, snow, and ice. I burnt my bfgs off in 20,000 miles because I couldn't get traction. The turbo would kick in in third gear and the *** end would swing around on wet pavement.
