MPG range?
MPG range?
Was just reading a posting about advancing the timing to help with fuel milage. All very interesting to me as I am new to CTD engines and have not added any performance upgrades as of yet. So I am sorry if this is a stupid question.
My question is; what is a "normal" mpg range for a stock motor with out towing/plowing etc assuming normal weight factors of an unloaded truck?? That is tooling around in 2wd and highway travel.

Welcome to DTR!
Around here..only stupid question is the one you don't ask!
Need to know more about your truck to answer intelligently. Fill in truck type, etc, in signature...under User CP....Personal profile.
Your profile says 02 (second Generation) so advancing timing, per se, is not really an option.
I can get 18-20 mpg with my automatic, 4x4 #2 diesel fuel yr round, empty. You will get less with winter fuel. If you have a 5 or 6 speed manual, 4x4, in summer time should do 20-22 mpg, hwy.

Changes in timing are accomplished via "Boxes" on the electronically controlled VP pump equipped Cummins.
With 'summer fuel' I see 14-15 around town, w/ 18-20 on the road @ 2000 rpm.

Thanks for your response. I just added a signature hopefully I did it right! I seem to be getting 15-18 mpg is that too low without even intake and exhaust upgrades?
Thanks again

On my trip back to texas i average about 21-22 per gallon on the highway doing about 70-75 the majority of the time. But in the city i usually get around 16-18 depending on how fast i need to get somewhere.

Hmm
My mileage corresponds almost identical to kevellis32. I run BFG 285's, 3.54 gearing in the pumpkins, and i get about 16-18 in the city, and 21 mpg on the highway, at about 70-75 mph... Not too sure what the 24V's get....Ill just read on and look see....
