BHAF/silencer ring questions
I hope you guys can stand more questions about BHAFs and silencer rings. I just put 4" exhaust on my '98 12-valve and the next thing I was going to do is a BHAF.
From what I've read, the stock airbox provides more than enough air for a stock engine, but I'm wondering if I do the BHAF, will I be able to hear the turbo better? Even if I don't remove the silencer ring?
Also, has anyone built a housing (not a heat shield, I'm talking about an actual enclosed box) for their BHAF on a 2nd gen? (I've seen some on some 1st gens.)
Thanks!

I'm not really opposed to removing the silencer ring--I just wondered how much difference a BHAF would make, everything else being equal, in the amount of noise.

Toss in a BHAF Filter, easy as pie and makes the turbo (and EGT's) happy.
Heatshields are fine, an enclosed box would do well, it's really all up to you. I don't run anything now, but have an idea for a cool box soon, just no time.
Take the truck out for a drive and see how you like the new sound. If you want more whistle, pull over and pop the silencer ring out. If it's too loud, pop it back in. It's literally a 1-minute job if you're slow.

having the silencer ring out was cool at first until the first road trip with it out, that thing gets annoying after a while especially when up in the mountains so the turbo is working the whole time.

I keep mine in the glove box so if im on a long road trip I can pull over and pop it back on. I love the whistle, but after a few hours it gets old!

I love the whistle! With the windows up along the highway and with the radio on you can hardly hear the turbo. That sound sure is intimidating when you pass a GM or Ford!
