BHAF or K&N Drop in?
nothing at all wrong with a properly maintained K/N..... and by the way, i didnt buy my truck just to pull so the " superficial stuff " as someone stated is part of the fun for me with my truck. use it to pull or use it for fun who cares ???..... we are all here for questions to be asked and to help each other arent we ???? hmmmmm - period scott

This can be prevented with a ridged collar but watch out otherwise.

No separated where the filter joins the tube. On some BHAFs the connecting edge of the filter gets soft when hot, no matter how tight the clamp is it just distorts the filter and squeezes out the filter. A short piece of pipe inside the filter to make the connection solid prevents this.

the drop in and bhaf dont really have the airflow.the marine bhaf is considerably better but is pretty expensive since it only goes one time and has to be replaced.the best flowing, cheapest way out is to get you a megacannon replacement filter, and use it. part# afe 24-91002 at $84.00 from piers.you can fab you up a heat shield bracket pretty easily.

I have no clue what the "megacannon" is, or looks like - but I intend to find out

I have no problem making my own shield, and I am betting I could maky my own that looks just as good as the ones I have seen with some of the full intake kits, but never even considered just buying the filter and going that route.
I've run a K&N in my stock air box for about 100,000 miles now. My last silicon number was 3! I've never had oil show up on my Turbo or in my hoses.
A properly oiled and bedded K&N will do just great. If you over-oil it, yes the extra oil will show up down stream of the filter. Don't over-oil it!
A K&N filters air better & more efficiently than a stock paper filter, that is for sure. Although the sheer surface area of the BHAF is impressive and possibly better for air flow.
A K&N works on a different principal than a paper filter. With a paper filter, air flows through the filter and has to make abrupt changes of direction as it twists and turns its way through the tight paper element. Dirt particles, being heavier than air, go straight when the air turns, and get trapped in crevices in the paper element.
With the K&N filter, the oiled cotton catches the dirt as the air flows by, without having to make the air change direction so much. Hence it is more efficient.
And if you hold a K&N up to the light, yes you will see a few little points of light which look like holes. These "holes" are actually covered by microscopic cotton fibers just like the rest of the filter, and no appreciable amount of dirt gets through them--I've never had a Silicon number higher than 4.

Dust you want dust, I`ll give you dust I live I Tucson Az where the summer heat gets over 115* in the shade!! Green what is green every thing here is a dusty dirty gritty brown/tan. O.K. the dust rant is over I run the K/N with a holed air box I clean it every 6mo. and I have no messy problems and it seals up no problems, and my truck has over 235,000+mi and I just knocked off 19.0mpg@70mph on a trip from Tucson to Kingman Az,(lots of steep hills) does the K/N work I think so JMHO
