best type of shocks

Any recomendations on the best replacement shocks for a 2002 quad cab long box 4x4. On my last diesel I had the rancho 9000 adjustable shocks which worked great to stiffen up the ride and take out body roll. But I was wondering if a self adjusting shock like the edelbrocks would be a better choice so they soften up on bumps but stay stiff on the hiway. Any one used anything like these with their diesel?? I am just worried the engine will be to heavy and not allow the shock to function properly. Would dual shocks on the front offset this??? Any input would be appreciated.

Re:best type of shocks

I just dumped my stock shocks and put the new Rancho RS9000X's on w/ the in-cab remote control. They work awesome! Great w/out the trailer and even better when towing! They have 9 adjustment points, from soft to very firm. ;D If you had the 9000s before, I would definitaly recommend these!

Tony

I tried a set of the edelbrock ias shocks and they were absolutely awful. The stock shocks were better. I would stick to the rancho adjustable.

Just installed Bilsteins in my 94. They feel great, and past experience tells me they'll last forever. They ride real nice. Not the cheapest, but I think they are worth it.

Bilsteins available from Autozone(or was it Advanced)? Anyway, one of them stores with orange trim(sorry, been at work 16 hours today, go back in 5). About $50/corner, they usually have to order them in. Fronts work fine so far on mine, guess I oughta get the rears out of the basement and try them too.

Rob

Re:best type of shocks

I plan on going with the RSX Self Adjusting Shock on mine when I do the leveling kit. The springs I'm getting are red and I want my shocks to match. ;D

Re:best type of shocks

If you decide to go with the Bilsteins make sure you order the HD ones and not the standard shock. I've got them on my truck for almost a year now and they are a great shock. Truck corners like a sports car since I put 'em on.
Ken

Re:best type of shocks

I would recomend avoiding Rancho's with the exeption of the 9000's. The 5000s and RSX are nothing more than Monroe's shocks painted red and white. The 9000's are good if you want/need the adjustability. If you are really concerned about the color I would just repaint the shock body, make sure you don't get any paint on the upper seal or the rod. Bilstien makes a good aftermarket shock. I am getting ready to try an experiment on my truck with KYB's. They make a monotube that will fit a stock height truck, but don't know anyone who is using them. When I get them I plan on actually doing some off vehicle testing to compare them to the stock shocks.
