best "no mod" box..EZ, Quad, Smarty, Superchip????
I've decided after months of research on here to remain stock, except for 4" exhaust, and the K&N Drop. I can see where it becomes something that will never end, so I only want a box that can run with no mods, simply for towing.
I'm reading they all have, or cause some problems, so my question is:
What is the most reliable of the simple boxes?

You run a Smarty, yet tell me the Van Aaken box is best for towing? I thought everyone who owned a smarty thinks it's the best for every application...? hmm
Very interesting, and makes me think it must be good for my application..
thanks for your input Diesel camper dude.

i dunno about towing.. but best real feel power is the Smarty. and you are right.. modding these trucks is a vicious never ending cycle.. buy something.. get more power.. something breaks.. fix that.. get another power adding mod and something else breaks.. over and over amen
I have a two year old Edge EZ that won't work. Edge says it needs a software upgrade but Edge won't give on their warranty so I now have a little black box that cost me $600.00 that is even too light to make a good door stop. Not pleased at all with the customer service at Edge Products. It worked good when it worked.
All these boxes are similar in HP and torque ratings, but different in the way they feel and price. The Smarty fuels harder down low, but is about the same as the other boxes on the top end. The only real benefit to it is the upgradability and the use for a code reader and Tire calibration tool. Is it worth the extra money? Only the owner can justify that. I ran a smarty for a while and was very pleased with the results. I pull and tow and I could really feel the difference between it and the EZ that I have now down low( getting the load started). I want to upgrade to a fueling box is the only reason I got rid of the Smarty. All these boxes are a great inprovement. The Edge EZ, Van Aaken, and Quadzilla Zxt are a little easier on the drivetrain than the smarty though. This is because they do not come in until around 1500 RPMs when boost comes up. The huge plus to these boxes is they are a whole lot cheaper that the smarty, but only you can weight the differences and decide which is best for you.

I have to agree with the Lack of customer support that EDGE provides but I am satistified with Edge Juice w/Attitude monitor. I pull alot and like the adjustability that the monitor brings. Of course the guages are benificial as well. My 99 dodge has the same package set up that you would use and the price that I found mine for is $650. Easy to install as well!
quadzilla problems
I have the quadzilla standard & commander. I have had nothing but problems. I would not recommend it. Right now I am waiting on a reply from an email & a return phone call. Tech support is very poor. I even asked to talk with Quad.
I just installed an Edge Comp for use with towing in the Sierras. I bought it: 1) adjustable on the fly, and 2) found it for a great end of year price ($455).
I like the idea of being able to turn it off on flats when stock is good enough but on to pull the tough grades.
My $.02:
