proud new owner of a 2000 truck w/5.9 Cummins, considering a banks upgrade and heard the added power can too much for trany. Any experiences out there?

Hang around here awhile before you make that big Bank$ decision.....you'll save some $$$ and end up with more power.
And Yes it can still toast your tranny. Alot depends on your right foot.

I have a friend that did the Banks kit and the auto was fine until we added 275 rv injectors. When he is running highway speed and the trans goes into passing gear..the trans(convertor) shudders.
He is now looking at a trans rebuild to hold the extra hp.

Rick

Re:Banks ugrade - trans damage possble?

I have a buddy that had a '99 with the Banx Power pak & he went through 6 autos before he traded in on a 6 spd. He owns a trans shop & had access to rebuilt stock ones, so he didn't want me to tell him about a $3000+ trans. that could hold it. As the other guys said, you can make lots more power with other add ons vs Bank$...I spent less than $1000 and can ba at close to 400hp, but that's the 12valver world.

Please save your money. There are alot of stuff out there that can get you MUCH MUCH more power like Edge chip that add 300ft lbs of TQ and if you want a little more than run LP. But yes you will need to get a TC. My brother ran 130hp chip and propane and just blew a 400hp TC in like 5 months.

Re:Banks upgrade - trans damage possible?

There are LOTS of choices for upgrading your power. However for upgrading your tranny there are 3 or 4 really.

I prefer Diesel Transmission Technologies (DTT). They have done tons for the market, as they were the first transmission company to dyno over 800horsepower(hp), and have several trucks running in the 12's, and 11's at the 1/4 mile.

Then there is the one you'll most often see on this website, and that is Automotive Transmission Specialists (ATS). They have been popular on these boards for about a year now, and are not stopping. They have several fast trucks, and some neat stuff going on with engine modifications.

Another very populat choice that does not get much spotlight time here on the boards is Suncoast (no web site I could find). They have been doing this for a LONG tome, and have sold tons of upgraded trannys. The shop I work at uses this company, and has NEVER had a problem with ANY customer's truck. Good guys to deal with also. They have a tranny in Nowel's (HVAC) truck, which is putting out just about 700hp on diesel only.

There are several other choices I won't go into more detail about, such as BD-Power, Gromenn(SP-sorry guys) Brothers, and a few I'm forgetting now.

Those are the biggest ones you'll read/hear about. As I stated, I prefer DTT, but that is MY choice, you need to find the best tranny for you.

Hope this helps,
Andrew

Re:Banks ugrade - trans damage possble?

Lezmark:

Welcome to the website!

I agree with what all the other members have already
told you.

Banks=High Dollars!!

I would like to add that if you decide to do "mild
upgrades" to your truck, at least install a shift
kit in your transmission (such as a Trans-Go) or
buy a complete aftermarket valve body which
has had the line pressures increased somewhat.

The "stock" transmission in my 96' lasted until
98,000 miles with just the addition of a a "Trans-
Go' Shift Kit. At the time, I had a modified pump
with a #6 TST cam plate and a modified turbo
and air box.

I also have two friends who installed the Edge EZ
Boxes in their 24 valve trucks and did no mods
to the trannies, and are now having transmission
problems! IMO, the stock Dodge transmissions
can't take the extra H.P./Torque without minor
mods as I mentioned above.

Good luck!

--------
John_P
