Bad lift pump????

hey guys i posted in the help forum but im gonna post here cause im stumped on my problem. My truck started running rough, sounded like it was running on 5 1/2 cylinders and then it died as i pulled into the gas station, but before it died the fuel pressure spiked to 80psi!!! i tried to start it again and same thing it ran rough like it had air in the system and was tying to purge it and then died(spiked to 70psi agian), also the water in fuel light always came on after it died and would stay on even after i started it up, and after it died i could start it right back up with a little foot pump action and it'd run and stumble and die. So thinking that the fuel filter might be clogged i put a new one in, but nothing changed. After haveing this happen another 15-20 times with all the exact same symptoms as stated above. I replaced the lift pump with a spare that i had and i made it home fine, but im not convinced i fixed it any ideas?????

Ya i think your right, when i swapped lift pumps i noticed the line from the fuel tank to the lp wasnt very snug so i used a hose clamp on it instead of the stock one fom the factory which isnt adjustable. but it still sounds funny, i took it for a test drive today and it ran fine but the exhaust sounds real "poppy" almost like its missing, but only under load, it just doesnt sound right, maybe my fuel lines are sucking air???

Not uncommon with trucks that are creeping up in age. I would be tempted to replace all the line with bio compatible diesel fuel line just to be sure. Don't forget all the other usual suspects for sucking air as well.

Stay away from the blue fuel lines. They are nothing more than air hose.

Thanks, i was looking at my nasty fuel lines today and figured i ought to get some new ones, but i have another issue. My truck always seems to get hot when ever i pull a grade, loaded or not, engine temps start rising and so do the egts, but im not overfueling i run in valet mode and thats 2xxhp and 5xxtq cant remember exactly, but i just cant figure out why my truck wont cool down or stay cool??? when i was racing at the 1/4 mile after every run my truck was really hot and took forever to cool down im stumped whys isnt it cooling down???

I haven't pulled it yet, but ive run at least four radiator and motor flushes through it to clean it but its never done anything noticable for me. My truck is originally non intercooled so my radiator is now blocked by the intercooler, could that cause problems???

the inside should be clean by now but I am referring to the outside that needs cleaning. The outside is what cools it, so if it is clogged with mud, bugs, and crap from the blow off bottle then it needs to be cleaned.

Ahhh i'll take a look, but to be honest its quite protected it has the A/C condensor in front of it, then the intercooler and then two tranny coolers but its definantly worth a try. thanks
