Another E-Brake
Another E-Brake
I'm having the dealer install my E-Brake tomorrow. I'm mechanically inclined...just lazy! The kit is $675.00 installation is $250.00. I hope it works as well as everybody says and it's worth the $$$
I'll report back tomorrow as long as they finish the job as promised...we'll see! :

Re:Another E-Brake
I had PacBrake send out my installation kit for my brake today.
I bought a brake off of a guy with a 24V and had to have a new wiring harness so I ended up getting a kit that contained everything that would have come with a brake. Can't wait to get it installed....probably be Friday evening.....then I get my 60lb springs put in Saturday hopefullly!!

Re:Another E-Brake
Just as I figured. They didn't finish my E-brake as promised. You know, you hate to be a you-know-what to the service manager. But when they promise and can't deliver, it really upsets you. >
I have yet to take any vehicle to any dealer and not get the run-around or a bunch of excuses why they couldn't complete the job as promised. This seems to be the standard at the dealers I've been to.
The service manager, a woman, said the mechanic had the previous days job come back so she had to pull him off my truck. Now that really makes me feel good. Let's see; the glorified shade tree mechanic bothched the job the day before and now he's working on my truck. Great! >
I guess I should have done it myself. Next time I will. After all, this is a very non-technical installation. At worst, a knuckle buster! We'll see if it's ready tomorrow. Maybe if the service manager is easily intimidated, I can get her to give me the kit at cost. Suuuuuuuuure! Sign me... >

Re:Another E-Brake
Got my truck back today. Looks like they did a good clean job installing the Jacobs E-Brake. I can't wait to test it out with the 5er in tow. I used it coming home from the dealer and it seems to really put the whoa! on the ponies!
Now here's the straight skinny from the Driving Instructions as supplied in the kit. Quote: "To obtain the optimum braking performance from the Jacobs Exhaust Brake, it is necessary to keep the engine RPM as high as possible, but NOT TO EXCEED 3100 RPM.
Select a gear that will cause the engine to operate as near to 3100 RPM (but not over that speed) as driving conditions permit.
DO NOT OPERATE THE JACOBS EXHAUST BRAKE AT ENGINE SPEEDS ABOVE 3100 RPM."
Maybe this will answer some questions concerning E-Brakes, RPM, etc.. ;D
