ANOTHER box question

Sorry to bring up another box question. As some of you might know I'm shopping for a comp soon. I'm not looking for crazy power, just a little more get up and go. I want one with in cab adjustability. So here's my question. What is the deal with wire tapping the vp? Do you have to tap this wire with all the boxes? Is it an option to tap or not to tap? I'm a bit confused and havent found an answer in my searching, so I figure I'd go right to the horses mouth so to speak. Thanks in advance!

Basically you have to tap the wire to get more than a 60hp increase. So to run a Comp in EZ mode, or use a milder box you don't have to tap it. It's the only way to increase fueling beyond that level...

Basically anything that advertises +/-65 hp is just a piggyback controller or a programmer. These variants can only call for 100% fueling which is why they all make simular power. The 100+ hp boxes all will tap the wire make the pump work harder. With the edge comp you can run the box without the wire tap and it will do what a edge ez would, but if you hook up the wire tap then it'll make a lot more power.

A wire tap box on our trucks gives the most hp per $ which is why they're so popular. Injectors can add a lot of power per $ too, but they'll also produce more boost, so you need a box/programmer anyways to boost fool, plus injectors aren't adjustable =( But the right injectors and supporting bombs can get you nearly to 500 hp without tapping the pump wire.

With that said I highly recommend the smarty programmer. It will definately give ya some more get up and go, but you can't change programs while driving down the road. Really there's not much reason to change levels with the smarty once you find one you like , but you mentioned in cab adjustability

You don't have to tap the wire.. but the wire is where the power is.. at least big power... you can get some power with just the plug and play boxes.. but I don't know of any (I'm sure there are a few) boxes that have in cab control that don't tap the pump wire.. (but no you don't have to tap it.) But I recommend buying a box that taps the wire.. Just don't tap it to start with.. you'll get greedy and want the extra power.. cheaper to do once.. then having to go bigger.. But like you said.. go for something with the IN-Cab controls..
Why don't some want to tap the pump wire.. some injection pumps have failed soon after tapping the pump wire... Some think that tapping the wire is related to pump failures..
Most boxes that don't tap the wire are in the 40hp range... tapping the wire 100+

i think that a HRVP44, mach 4's, smarty and something like maybe an EZ that doesnt tap the wire will get near and most likely over 500hp

Thanks for the quick responses. I was planning on something like the edge comp, or quadzilla, so when I can actually afford it, I'll just leave the wire untapped (for now ) .
