alot of smoke and semi high egts

Ok I have a 2001 dodge ram with a 6.5" lift and 37's with a dtt built auto. It also has BD stage 5 injectors and a pius 60 or 61mm turbo and an edge comp box. Now with the box set on 1x1 it blows a decent bit of smoke on low throttle pre boost, like cruising through town and the egts with light throttle going up a grade can hit 900-1000! On the level they will be 600 to 800. Now, when I get into it and lite the turbo it will still blow smoke but the egts are more manageable. I think the box is working properly as with it set to 3x5 I will smoke out the highway and nail 35lbs of boost. It willl also spin those 37's from a 35 mph role. It seems to have good power but the turbo seems to take a bit to spool up. Now before I installed the box the egts and boost spool up seemed to be the same as they are now, but the smoke was less a decent bit less then the 1x1 setting.

I guess the quick and dirty is, should i be looking for a blown boot or intercooler even though it will still make 40+ psi on 5x5 or is the slow spool just part of having those 37's on the truck? Also if I turn the box off will the truck run like stock or will I throw a code because of the map circuit?

Sorry about the long post, I know I still have a lot to learn. I just don't want to always smoke people out in town even on 1x1.

The VP wire is tapped

Thanks,

Paul

You can turn the box off, it won't set any codes. Your EGTs might actually be a bit higher with the box turned off, the added timing from the box helps to control temps.

As for your spool problem, some of it is the tires, especially if you have 3.55 gears. That is a lot of tire to get moving, which causes the engine to rev slower, which in turn causes slower spool.

The other part is your turbo, even though a 60 or 61 is not that much bigger than stock, it will still most likely spool slower than a HX35.

Combine both of these issues and you will probably have noticably slower spool up, and the EGT issues that go along with the slow spool. Your EGTs don't seem terribly high to me though.

With the box off and the pedal to the floor it would top out at 1200 - 1250...with the box on i got out of it at 1380-1400 set to 5x5. I blacked out a three lane highway. I was actualy worried about the cops coming after me, there was that much smoke. I am amazed the difference in performance with the box turned on.

I more concerned about smoke which is why i tried 1x1 but it will still chug pretty good just cruising...maybe 2x1 might work. I am open to ideas.

Do all levels add timing?

I will fill out my sig tonight.

Thanks for the help yall
