Done some diggin' on this but a buddy of mine and I got to scratchin' our heads about doin' this swap on a 5 or 6spd truck. Anybody know what kind of shifter setup works good? Gabe32 and tito14_01 you have PM's on this if ya'll are around. Thanks

 

The Allison 1000 from a D-max or a larger one like a AT-545?

No, no. The 1000---read of it being done here and on TDR.

 

AT545 does not have a lock up converter and is a 4 sp. Lots of them in garbage trucks.

 

It wasnt to hard to do if you know what your doing and looking for, the fun part was making it work in a single cab 4X4. but now I have to get rid of it and get a NV4500 back in it so I can sled pull. They changed the rules and now I cant run the 545 becose it was never put in a 1 ton or less. They came in a lot of buses, and small trucks like the fraightliner FL70 where I got mine. Also you have to get the flywheel housng that was used for the Blue Bird buses with a 5.9 so you can get the driver side starter its the only one.

 

What controls that 545 tranny? Does it communicate with the cummins in any way, or is there a throttle cable hooked up to it? How does this tranny do for drag racing/ boosted launches? My nv 4500 is slow off the line! And my arms can't move as fast as an auto shifts.

 

Just a cable I made it a manual shift so if I put it in 3rd it is in 3rd not 1-2-3. It shifts instent and hits like a tank. But has no over drive so is realy slow on the road, 245-75-16 with 3.54 is 2800 at 70 38's make it 2250. I'll trade you for your 4500 and a little $$$

 

would make a nice tranny for my plow truck, does the unit clearance the stock trans tunnel?

 

doing the swap as we speak, The Destroked kit and Howards adapter will fit with out modifying the tunnel.
