A few of my friends run modified A/C compressors as air compressors for their wheelin' rigs. My opinion is to avoid it, they dont seem to last very long as air tank compressors.

My little bronco II has onboard air using an AC compressor. Ive had it on since about july and its worked great for me. Pretty simple to do, took me about 4 hours to get it done, I could do it much faster a second time if I had too. I oil it every once in a while, I also have a filter on the intake.

Did your compressor motor give up or is it no longer pumping up the system?
Mine ran forever one day and never brought the pressure up.
I pulled the pump, refilled the oil reservoir and it's been good to go since.

i pulled it apart as soon as i heard no air filling up. the bearing on the connecting rod for the piston, melted. so im looking for a skate board wheel bearing or semething like that now. Im hoping that it will fit like that, but the pump itself is fine.

take a look at http://www.kilbyenterprises.com/bracket-kits.htm it puts a york a/c compressor under the hood of your truck right nexted to the alt. with prices for the brackets about $172. I think it's a heck of a deal and you still have A/c of the truck some thing I not willing to go with out.

Looks like it would be pretty cool, but they don't list one for the 12 valve guys.

Check a Toy/ Hobby/ RC car type store the carry all kinds of bearings for smaller items and you can get roller, ball bearing. tapered ect due to the engines and such in RC vehicles.

great idea... this bearing is a 626z and i found a 696z but it was like one mm too big... but if i use my patience then im going to go to South Shore Bearing for the new bearing and have tem press it on and do the whole deal... They are a local shop that carries every type of bearing...

how much does the compressor cost? might make a 12volt kit just as cost effective. 172. + 150.= 322. you can get a compressor for that price and keep it of the engine robbing power!
