Adding Side Mirror Marker Lights/Turn Signals
Adding Side Mirror Marker Lights/Turn Signals
I'm wanting to add lights on my side mirrors that act like the lights on the Ford PowerJokes that are marker lights. Do y'all know if these also work as turn signals? I'm trying to decide how I want them to work, then I'll try to figure out how to wire it up.
Here are the lights I bought. I got a set of each cause I want to see which looks better:

How are you planning on attaching them? Just screw them into the mirrors and run the wires back into the cab with the mirror wires? I've thought about adding some side repeaters somewhere, but I haven't gotten as far as planning it all out yet.
Nevermind.... they loaded this time....
Something you might want to consider is that on the fords, I believe they are dual intensity... I think they are dimmer when used as running lights but the turn signal is brighter than the running lights.... Just something to think about.... I suppose you could run them so that they are full on for running, then just flash for turn signal... Not sure how that would look, but I suppose it would be fine...

LED's are usually pretty directional in their output, perhaps regular bulbs would be better in this case?
If you wanted them on, and then to flash with the blinker, you could use a universal trailer light converter.. ignore the "running light" wire, and hook your running lights to the "brake light" circuit, and the turn signals into the respective turn signal inputs.
On the output side, ignore the running light (tail light) wire, and just use the R & L blinker wires and grounds.
They will be steady and flash at the same brightness, but they're not all that bright anyway.
Interesting idea.. I might do this myself..

The '02 FSM shows that they are dual-filament bulbs like BB said, which makes sense because I think I remember that they're 1157s (or 3157s, whichever is the wedge base). If I'm reading this thing right, there should be a black/yellow wire that's +12v for the parking lights when the headlight switch is on, and a light green/tan wire that's +12v for the turn signals when they're activated. Outside the cab, I'd just tap up near the sockets. Inside the cab, you should be able to tap behind the dash, since the instrument lights and the turn signal indicators appear to be run from the same place. Only problem with instrument lights would be the rheostat for dimming, which you probably wouldn't want on an exterior running light like that.
I used the same lights on my stainless towing mirrors, the holes in the bases for the lights lined up perfect with the 4 screws on the head of the mirror, then I just routed the wires on the backside of the arms that bolt to the door I plan on adding 2 more where the other 2 screws are & wiring them up to the turn signals seperatly, don't know the best way for mounting them on the plastic mirrors, but this worked good on the stainless mirrors, Dusty

I'll try & get some pics up over the weekend, might try & get the signal lights on & wired up also, never saw another dodge w/the lights on the mirrors like mine, the way I figure the only thing the new 6.0 boyz had on me was they had lighted mirrors & I didn't so I just had to do somethin about it
try & get some pics up soon, Dusty
