His sig also states his 24v has a 10 plate, 4kgsk, DDP4s. He did a p-pump conversion.

There are 3 pins I believe on the connector for my 97 CPS. One pin was 5 vdc from the CPS. When I measured mine it was close to 0 vdc. It was a shorted CPS that caused the PCM to not function. A new CPS fixed my problem.

Try unplugging your CPS and turn key on to see if any gages come back. It did on my 97. If it does you could have a bad CPS. You can try measuring the CPS voltage. One pin is GND one is 5 vdc and the other is the output of the CPS which are 5 v pulses that you can't measure with a voltmeter anyhow but you won't hurt it either. These PCM's are pretty tough and don't fail that often. This may be different on yours but Katmandu has a 98 i believe and it was the same on the one he just fixed. Checkout his thread from today:

Take a look in my gallery, you'll see what is up.

Truck is a 24v, has been p-pumped. I also have a 12v out of a '94 in the garage. Thats going to be going into a '79 F-150.

Try unplugging the CPS (Crank Position Senser) and see if any gage lights come back. The PCM needs pulses from CPS for some of its functions and the PCM will turn off if the CPS shorts out. The PCM sends 5 or 8 volts supply to the CPS to produce the CPS output pulses....when engine is cranking by the rotating damper with gaps that cause the CPS to pulse at the speed of the crank.

Unplug CPS...turn key on...do any functions return? You will not get the ALT charging or Tach without a functioning CPS but some of your gages may wake up. If they do then its a bad CPS. Still could be PCM but thats rare they fail. Not saying they don't fail but look elsewhere first. I know...I got a $600 PCM that I didn't need when the CPS fixed my problem in my 97.

Like i said in the first post, PULL the CPS OFF of the TRUCK and examine it closely. Mine had a broke wire. I just soldered in some new wire and all was good. Those CPS sensors run about $100.

Yep! It looks like the CPS is bad or the wiring as "Dieselman2300" has been saying. Like he says you might find a bad connector or bad wiring and it may fix your problem. Check it over then plug it back in and gap it and see if it works. If it doesn't then get a new CPS. Still cheaper than a PCM or ECM. I got mine from NAPA but Cummins would be the perferred place if you can. If it was a bad CPS then you can thank "Dieselman2300" since he told you to check it at the beginning of this thread...post #6

Good Luck,
Dave
