47re Torque Converter

Anyone have any experience with a Axiom/Transtar billet torque converter? they have a single disk rated at 750ft/lbs and a triple rated at 1000. warranty is the same a big names, and they have a local warehouse. Should I go for it, or order a name brand from across the country? thanks

Where are you located, and what are the prices on those 2 converters?

Just be careful. I had a buddy that bought a Dayco torque converter for his 24 valve. It was pretty good until one day when it just gave up internally and wouldnt unlock when you came to a stop. It had about 8k miles on it and they wouldnt warranty it. Just make sure you know what you are getting.

if i get it direct from their warehouse the single is 450, and the triple is 850. warrenty seems good on it, and costumer service has been great so far. plus they are close if something does happen. dont know just looking for input.

Try the ads on this site? I happen to have a Banks triple disk I only want 1k for. Brand new. Of course then you have no warranty, but you also don't need a core for most of the guys selling them on here.

TCI is a pretty well heard of name, so i would probably trust them. Is yours a single or triple disc?

Goerend makes a single disc for $650.

I think it's a good deal for the price. TCI has been building race tranny's for ever so they might know what their doing.
I ran the Comp/Smarty stack now the Adrenaline and haven't slipped it yet.
But i also upgraded my VB at the same time. the stock one doesn't supply enough line pressure.

My experience with Transtar here in NJ is good. I can speak for their Allison TCs. The price was a third the cost of a rebuild from Allison. Was told of Transtar by a guy that runs a fleet of about 50 school busses. He said that the TCs from transtar out last the Allison reman.

Anyway if you get on Transtars web site they have a TC catalog. They list 3 multi disc TCs with custom low stall.

You cant be too far from DTT, might be a good idea to give them a call. My DTT converter and valvebody have treated me right.

Your not to far from dunrite converters either. Tony sure seems to know what hes talking about. He has been able to help me with a couple of problems over the phone. I am saving up for one of their valve bodies and triple discs.

A high RPM race trans is a lot different from a low RPM high torque one.
The cummins can make more torque at 2,000 RPM than a lot of race motors ( gas and alcohol) do.And at low rpm, the pump isn't at its best output.
I had a TCI and it was sent back to them for machining (at my expense).
The billet cover and balloning plates are not needed on diesels.
