4" lift
4" lift
Hey guys,
I would like to put a lift in my 98. I was thinking 3" or 4" I would like to hear from guys that have put lifts in as to which company makes the best system. Also if I go with one of the systems that give new rear springs do ya loose load carrying cap. I think the system that gives add a leafts may be the way to go. I have a spring company that I can have build me new rear springs if need be.
Thanks guys!

What are you planning on doing with the truck, and more importantly, how much are you willing to spend?
I can point you toward suspension that will simply lift the truck 4", or I can suggest the components you'll need for a performance system that will give you 4" more ride height.....
Big difference between a "lift kit" and a performance suspension system

Thanks for the response Cowhand!
The truck is a daily driver/work truck. It hauls my welder and the rest of the equipment that I need. It's often loaded with 3000 - 4000 lbs of molds for the concrete industry. I put between 4000-8000 miles on the truck a month. The most important thing that I haul is my family. So I need a system that is safe and handles well on the road. I've done the Skyjacker thing as well as have put in a couple BDS systems. They worked well. I just haven't done a system on a heavy duty truck like this. The rest on my trucks were 1/2 tons and it was about 10 yrs ago. I'm looking to you guys for some ideas on what's out there now and what you guys find work well.

I'd stay away from Skycrapper....BDS is okay but there is better stuff out there.
DT Products has some really nice 1/2" longer control arms that are pretty reasonable, match these up with some softer coils from Coil Spring Specialties and a set of Bilstein 5100's and you'll be set. That will set you back around $950.
You'll also need to do something with the track bar, I'd recommend Don Thuren's track bar for about $270, so......
Grand total of around $1300, plus rear springs. I'd go with your local spring builder if you trust his work, he can build you a spring pack that will move like it's supposed to and still retain the load capacity.

While I agree with CowHand on getting an aftermarket track bar, I'm gonna have to disagree with him on the skyjacker. I've got one on mine and I love it. It rides the same as stock, drives great, flexes decent (for a 3/4 ton truck), and easily clears my 35's. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this system again. And as for the track bar, I'm partial to my DT track bar but the heim joints do have a tendency to go bad but it's easily fixed by getting a bushing made up for it by Don Thuren. Don's track bar is top notch though.
Full Traction makes a 4" kit that looks pretty nice. About $1200 with shocks.

Tuff Country makes a 3" kit
Personally, I am going to put on some Skyjacker D25 springs and some 35s.

I put a tuff country 4 in. on mine which came with new longer control arms. I've had zero problems. It's a very nice set up. I'm also running 35's and have never had a problem with them rubbing or anything.
