3 piece exaust manafold $$$

Some weeks ago I came up with a crack in the exaust manafold and it has not seemed to spread so I put it off. I checked seveal web sites and the best price seems to be $460.00. Anyone know a better source? I have heard of lower prices, but cannot find one. I decided to end the priblem of the cracking and cannot see where the stock manafold can hold up, especially with my heavy loads in the dixie summer.

I'm gonna make a couple of suggestions. First, if you want a stock replacement, check out www.car-part.com. I have seen places on there that have them for 200.00.
If you want to go with a 3 piece, check out Ebay. I have seen them on there before. Sometimes you will also see a stock exhaust manifold there too. I saw one on there today but it's got some other kind if gizmo attached where the turbo should be so I don't think the seller knows what they are talking about.

Chris

Hauling...As far as a replacement exhaust manifold goes, ATS seems to be the best out there. I would not use the OEM as a replacement. If your'e not in a hurry, you may want to check with Piers at PDR. He sometimes has them on sale, during his monthly specials, or do what the others have sugguested. The advantage of the ATS Manifold, it should be your last with your current truck, and are much stronger to help support the larger turbo's and disappates heat better. Good luck!

Steve

I replaced mine before mine cracked.
I noticed on the 18-wheeler I drive, that the N-14 Cummins has this kind of exhaust manifold so I junked the POS DC manifold, didn't even keep it, just tossed it. Wouldn't sell it for the junk it is...

Once you have it off, you will notice the stock one is Half the weight of the 3 piece. Once I hefted that, I tossed the stocker.

When you get the manifold on, and torqued, drive it a bit then you have to retorque it. I lost 2 bolts because of this. they just vibrated out...
mine has been on for 2 yrs now and no problems!

Do not even think about using another stock exhaust manifold. I have changed all mine to the ATS and solved a number of problems with cracking, leaking, twisting, and gain an additional benefit that the EGT runs quite a bit cooler.

Take the advice advice about checking on e-bay. My first was from Piers, and a very good price. All the rest have been from e-bay for an average of $250 each. There are lots of guys that buy these and then do not know that you can get ball end allen sockets to install the bolts from an angle, so they give up.

On the 12V trucks you will be lucky if your manifold cracks before breaking the ears off the head. My studs were badly bent but nothing cracked or broken. After replacing the manifold the turbo spools quicker and there was a slight egt drop. Be sure to check your studs for bending.
I also got my manifold on E-Bay but at any rate it is worth the money. JMHO ;D
Bruce
