2nd gen low stall torque converters
2nd gen low stall torque converters
I have a 02 dodge that I pull a 10k fith wheel with. I want a little more pulling power and am going to ad a cold air intake and 4" exhaust. I called a tranny guy I know and he told me a couple of things I could do also would be to put in a shift kit and a low stall torque converter to extend the life of the tranny. I would just like any ideas or comments if this sounds right for pulling a fairly heavy load, or if anyone has any other ideas of things to do to the truck to help out without totally rebuiling the truck. Thanks

Give Dave Goerend a call. I know his 10 blade converters are pretty low stall. He offers either a single disc, or triple disc. If you're not making a lot of power his single disc would suit you fine. The stock converters in these trucks are really inefficient. With a different torque converter and a shift kit your tranny would be much better off. You may even want to think about skipping the shift kit and going with a full valve body. Dave sells them as well.

It will build your line pressure to help make the stock coverter stay locked. I have a Transgo Shift kit I bought to put on mine but never used it. You are welcome to it for what I paid for it. PM me if interested. I went ahead and bought the Goerand Bros tranny and tripple lock TC
Oh and Dave was super nice to deal with. He will walk you through the valve body up grade and answer any questions you have and do it with a smile.

For a little more pulling power get the Edge EZ, it will give you what you are lookin for.
the Vb raises the line pressure and firms up the shifts, the stock TC are junk, look at gettin a good one. do a search on here and you will find a ton of info, the prices are from $500-$1500.
Oh Welcome to the DTR, enjoy!!!

I would get an EZ, or VanAAken, you can get one of those , and gauges, for the price of an intake and exhaust, and get a much more noticable power increase. You won't really see an increase in power (at stock fueling) from improving the airflow...

But if i had to do it all over again and i see that you don't have guages yet get the Edge Juice with attitude. It will give you all the power you ever wanted and all the guages you need.
It will actually save you money in the long run.
I would have done it if the juice was out when i got guages. About $500-$600 in guages $500-$600 Edge comp.

I built my own trans with Dave G's convertor and valve body parts (also did the valve body myself). He was great to work with and I can't say enough about how much the trans improved my truck.
I pretty much did what Displacedtexan recommended to you + went with some RV275 injectors. I'm finally happy with the towing performance of my 01. I'm also on the stock exhaust and air box.
