3rd Gen vs 2nd Gen Torque
3rd Gen vs 2nd Gen Torque
I noticed at the recent diesel event the 2nd gen 12v engines tend to make more toque than the 3rd gen CR engines. I'm talking with mild mods. Why is that?
My truck with a Quad XZT made 357hp 653 tq. My buddies 12V with the star wheel cranked a little made 278hp and 829 tq. What gives?

It seemed to be common on other 2nd and 3rd gens that day too. So it is a function of Tq management in the ecm? That is interesting.
It would be nice for those of us that don't race or really care about big HP numbers to be able to put out 800 plus torque numbers and keep the HP reasonable for towing duty. I wonder if that is possible?

Sure its possible, inefficient, but possible. It takes fuel to make the power and these numbers that are being posted are full throttle and smoking like a freight train. One normally does not drive like that every day. Tends to draw a little too much attention.
If the numbers were skewed on all the trucks it may have been a dyno calibration problem also, or, the way the operator was setting up the runs. While we all want those big numbers, the intinsic worth of a dyno is to see a positive trend as you make changes.
