70k miles on my truck, original IP, Drag Comp since 25k, Smarty (or Catcher ECM) since 50k. maybe I'm lucky, but I think the LP health and fuel pressure are the keys to a happy IP.
The Smarty works great for power, but the downfall with the manual trans is the jerky/twitchy action of the throttle pedal and the associated cruise control surge. Don't get me wrong, I love the power, but it has its issues.
I took the Comp off my truck cause I found I wasn't using it often. More towing now and I don't really want to break anything! I drive daily on 7 or 9, tow on 3 or 5, depending on load.

I have a Smarty on my HO. I lost an ECM on my truck as I was playing around with otehr ECMs and my Smarty-- the factory ECM just went toes up.

I have no idea whether or not it had anything to do with the Smarty. I have no reason to think that the Smarty led to my ECM problems at all. Moreover, I have not had ANY issues with the truck since I had the ECM replaced.

As for VP life, I can't see any possible relationship between smarty usage and VP life shortening.

I CAN see how the smarty would reduce the life of rear tires, though

My truck has ~ 116k on it with the original IP. I've had the Smarty on since last Dec. The only codes it throws are the ones it's supposed to (0602 and 1693). I always leave mine on SW9. Never had any problems with it.

That's funny. I don't get any surge when I'm using cruise control. Maybe it's because I have 4.10s and you have 3.54s and I'm turning about 2300 rpms when I use CC.

I love the Smarty on my 02 HO. I run it on SW#5 for low boost smoke control with my DD3's and I have the TST Comp in reserve.

I run my Smarty on sw3 most of the time. I get the best mpg here. SW1 was ok but I just didn't get the mpg I thought I would. I tow with SW3 also and find it works great. SW5 is ok for towing too but I still get better mpg in SW3.

SW5 is the fun setting. It smokes pretty easy and really gets with the program. It surges in cruise without a load pretty bad. With a load it works ok but on rolling hills it still surges a little.

I was even able to do a nice burnout in SW5. It take a little effort to do it with a 5 spd. Tires cost too much to do this often. haha

Smarty on ho

I have a smarty and edge drag comp. I leave the comp on 3x3 with the smarty on 4 and its great for power empty. Do have the cruise surge though, pretty bad too. I installed 220 sticks with ats intake and aem workhorse with a homemade pusher pump and got close to 500 rwhp. I have ran it up to 8 on the smarty but its real hard to drive with a 5 speed. Fun once you get used to it.

3500 cab chassis western hauler bed 3:54 5 SPEED smarty, drag comp, 220 ddp sticks, aem workhorse and ats intake, stock charger 41psi sb dualdisk.

Do you have any performance upgrades? injectors and fueling boxes allow more fuel in each injection pulse, so you get more go juice than the ECM expects to see while trying to accelerate under cruise control. a larger turbo compounds the problem as boost comes on at a higher RPM. I don't think it is a hit or miss scenario - you will get some surge with power increase and the electronic cruise can't be modded with a WD40 tube stuck in a vacuum line (that sucks for us!)

by performance upgrades do you mean my DD3's and TST Comp??

I ran 360 miles today through the southern portions of the flint hills with the cruise set on 65mph...SW#5, TST Comp on #4... no surge.
