i have a buddy with a 99 and is itchin to start bombin it, it is all stock as of now except gauges and a bhaf. He wants to get a programmer that will still be big enough once he gets a turbo, tranny, head work, etc. So what in your opinion is the best bang for the buck for a all out programmer? Is it the Smarty or are other options better.

In my mind he really has only 2 choices...either save his money 'til they release the new Quadzilla race box or go the cheap route...all of the other boxes will be in the classifieds soon...cheap! (JMHO)

Is the truck completely stock? An auto truck? Some programmers are abit harder on stock parts, and you wallet might not agree with damage. The edge easy would work on a stock truck nice. If you pull and auto you might lose the tranny and converter. The first thing it do is throw away that stock lift pump or buy a new anybody aftermarket system. Next fix the tranny. Then add power, that boring sorry. The drag box from edge is a good bang for the buck mixed with the smarty. I would bet your tranny/clutch would be toast ASAP.

 

Get a smarty, and 275 injectors or their equivalent. This will require a valve body. A tighter converter really helps to put the power on the ground.
And yes a better lift pump should be done to even a stock 24 valve.

Next is a second job, because he will have the BOMB bug!!!!!!

 

Yea, it really all depends on how much $$ you have to spend. Bombing a truck is a slippery slope. But clutch/tranny upgrades come first
