20 psi boost and then heavy black smoke :(

wow i gotta get my truck in shop to check some stuff out. but was wonderin if you can help me a lil. my truck just started makin a weird almost grindin noise when i rev it up!! id say when my rpm is 1500 and on up it gets louder and louder. its not my tranny cause it does it when its out of gear. also duno if this is related but it also just started this, when i hit 20 psi of boost it feels like my tst just shuts off and it feels like stock power and it smokes like crazy and my boost jus goes way down. it feels strong from 0-20 psi then starts smokin and boost drops way down. does it when chips are all turned off. is this some kinda boost fooler thing or wat? or is it my vp or do you guys have any suggestions?? thanks

Check the play in the shaft of the turbo. sounds like your turbo is toast.
Or you have a bad boot.

ok lets assume its a turbo. i wouldnt mind a 62 style turbo of some kind. wat about a s300 62 style? like a 62-65-14? id like to add some injectors sometime and i dont tow. i can live with a lil higher egts just want a quick spoolin turbo.

usually you can move the impeller shaft and hear it beat the housing when you move it if the turbo is bad, and it will burn oil

when i spin it no noise. i can move it around a little. but yea when i rev engin past 1200 rpm i can start hearin the noise and it gets louder as rpms climb. i cant tell if its coming from turbo or not! its comin from that side of the truck definitely.

well on all the impeller problems ive had made a chirp sound, nothing like a grinding noise. It sounds like your turbo is going out sure enough though, id take it out and run the crap out of it around the house and see if you can get the turbo to lock down.

As far as EGT's, your cruisin egts might be a little higher with a s300, (normal s300 or 62 s300,) but up top it will be running good and EGT's will be lower then with your stock turbo. Also the 14cm exhaust housing will drop temp cause the exhaust is exiting faster.

s300 is a good turbo as a single with mid fuel mods (chip + 50 - 75 hp sticks) or would be a good top turbo in a set of compounds.
I hope to have a HT3B or s400 under mine one day. With smarty/juice stack and 150 sticks!
